A night on the ice....

Yesterday afternoon I got a text message from my brother "you should bring the girls ice skating tonight". His girlfriend, Kelly, teaches a skating class Wednesday evenings and he actually had the night off work, so he was going to be there, too. I text back, "we'll be there".

The weather has been so unbelievably mild here in Minnesota this year - everywhere, really! Warm temps and very few snowfalls of only an inch or 2 at a time, which is usually completely melted by the next day.

The gorgeous weather conditions yesterday were...well, gorgeous!! Unfortunatley, the ice doesn't have the same opinions. It was definitley skateable, but quite slushy and soggy in most areas. Thank goodness I brought the girls' snowpants, even tho they really didn't need them for warmth - because they were completely soaking wet. Wet from falling, of course, and wet from making "slush" angels. We don't have any actual snow for a snow angels, so they have to take what they can get, I guess.

With every skating adventure I take them on they continue to get better and better.

Tho, as much as Alexa LOVES ice skating, she is still a gymnast at heart!

After we called it a night from skating - we hung out in the warming house for a bit, had some popcorn and walked up to the rec center where the hubs was in a meeting. Our intentions were to just run in and grab a quick drink out of the fountain - but, we ended up getting convinced to stay and chat with some of the staff and wait for Adam to get out of his meeting.

He was surprised to see us...and then quickly took advantage of us being there to get in a couple games of ping pong {if we were at home waiting for him, he wouldn't have...cuz, that's just the kind of guy he is.....right!? Right!}.

Mandy was so kind to send my girls the Be Mine Knot Dress/Ruffle Pant Set from her shop.

Not only am I in love with all the fabrics used in this wonderful set, I just can't get over the detail of the red rose trim along the apron. It just doesn't get much cuter.

Personally, the knot dresses paired with ruffle pants are my favorite design these days. Honestly, if I were able to pull a combo off like this in an adult size, I totally would. You can't beat cute and comfy.

Mandy's details are incredible. She has an eye for pairing great fabrics together. The reds and pinks with the denim bodice is all so amazing.

I also really appreciate her straight seams and stitchwork. I love the clean lines and professional look.

The set she sent my girls is a size 5.

Lillian usually wears somewhere between a size 4 and a 5 and Alexa wears a size 7.

With the knot style dress - I was able to make the straps shorter for it to fit Lillian perfectly. However, the pants ran a little bit big. I had them rolled up twice around the waist (which worked great for her).

The sweet little set fit Alexa perfectly - both the top and the bottoms. So, perhaps the sizing runs a little bit big. And I always love that it will grow with my child so, both girls will get lots of wear out of it.

Mandy's unique style and gorgeous fabrics is what intrigued me. She offers clothing for both girls and boys, so each child can feel special and wear something stylish and fun.

Valentines for Friends + M2M Party Designs Review & Giveaway!!

On Sunday we all sat together at the kitchen table and put together the girls' Valentine treats for their classmates. They both celebrate Valentine's Day in their classrooms tomorrow and wanted to bring something special for each of their friends.

We were so lucky for the opportunity to receive these sweet owl Valentine bag toppers from my friend Edna at M2M Party Designs. You may remember her from my review of the little aprons from Mis Manos. I absolutely love how the bag toppers turned out. The owl design is just adorable and they are printed on thick card stock so that they are durable and not flimsy at all.

Alexa's job was to take a scoop of Valentine M&M's and put them in the bag..then she passed the bag to Lilli...

Our Weekend!

My little brother and his fiancé came to visit this weekend.

It's been so long since we've seen them both that it was a really nice treat to be able to have them here for a couple days.

We went to another Fire on Ice event in Minneapolis. It was super cold out (of course! It's been in near 40 all week, but Friday it dropped to single digits!) but, we had a great time anyways. We didn't do as much skating as we hoped because it was so cold, but we stayed warm by the bonfire, made smores and sipped on hot cocoa. Tiny (<---- his name is Danny, but he is more known as Tiny to everyone) and Courtney hadn't seen Adam's rec center yet, so he gave them the grand tour and then we went our for a late dinner.

We wanted to take them to one of our favorite restaurants, Fat Lorenzo's, but it was so packed for a Friday night that we felt like it might be too much - especially with the girls. So, we went to Wendy's instead (obviously the girls' choice).

While the girls slept, we played Monopoly into the wee hours of the night. My brother got the electronic version for Christmas - and I have to say, it's a lot more fun to play when you're not dealing with paper money. It's never a huge thrill to play with my husband because he ALWAYS wins. He brags about it, he gets cocky and it's kind of annoying, but the truth remains - he ALWAYS wins. He beat us all Friday night - but, Saturday night when he was out of the room - the 3 of us made a pact that one of us HAD to beat him - no matter what! And Courtney pulled through for us - thank goodness. It knocked him off his pedestal a bit.

They spent the rest of the weekend loving up their nieces.

I think Lilli has enough tickles in her from her uncle to last her another month (hopefully not much longer than that) until we see them again.

B. Cheniful Review & Giveaway

What a unique way to showcase the new baby and the day they he/she was born.

My girls are obviously too big for onsies (sigh!!) so, Brandi made them some super cute t-shirts featuring their name on a cupcake.

...pardon the wrinkles. I should have taken the picture before I let them wear the shirts all day.

Brandi is very adament about getting the order to fit exactly to the specifications of the customer. She asks questions, like, what their favorite colors are, do they have a certain theme, ect. It's very important to her that her customers are happy - I love that about her.

I told her that my girls love the colors pink, purple, yellow...

She incorporated all those special colors and elements into the goodie bag of treasures she sent.

Pink and yellow are featured on their cupcake. She also sent some adorable purple clippies for their hair... ...and some bright pink earrings to match. Brandi was sweet to think of me as well - and threw in a few surprises - some earrings and a coffee cozy.

Everything is so fabulous and well made. I especially love the quality of the t-shirts. They are a fitted cotton and a little thicker than most t-shirts.

Lately, peanut butter {chunky} and mini chocolate chips spread on apples has been the go-to snack at our house.

Sock Hop 2012!

Our weekend started off with Alexa's elementry school's annual Sock Hop!

I don't want to come across as a downer about this, (even tho this has only been our second Sock Hop), but, I have to say, it's not my most favorite school event. The only reason why we go is because it's such a big deal to Alexa and her and Lillian seem to have so much fun. They get to dress up in their poodle skirts, see all their friends and dance the night away.

It all sounds really great - but, the truth of the matter is that it's basically utter chaos.

It's a cram packed gym with a couple hundred school agers (K-5) running completely wild. They are all going in a different direction and bumping and toppling over each other and literally knocking each other down. Poor Lilli got trampled by a what-looked-to-be 5th grade boy, at least 3 times her size.

They have a DJ - so, you can imagine that the music is pumping. It's so nice to be able to see our friends and neighbors, but it's definitley not a place to socialize when we have to scream to be heard.

Despite Lilli getting smashed to the floor - the girls really did have a great time, which is ultimately what matters. I also have to give major props to the families at the school - all the kids were dressed up SO cute in their poodle skirts and slicked back hair, rolled up jeans and white tee's.

100 Days of School!!

Today marks the 100th day of preschool for Lillian.

All the children were asked to make hats to wear today to celebrate.

They were to make a hat with 100 'things' attached to it.

So, we raided my Grandma's old buttons and found an old hat of Daddy's and went wild hot gluing them all around the hat.

I think she was pretty happy with how it turned out. :)

Alexa LOVES Gymnastics

Awhile back I mentioned that we switched Alexa's gymnastics program.

She was going to a great gym through community education - but, after a few sessions we saw that Alexa had a much bigger passion for gymnastics than we ever thought she would. She proved to us that she was working hard, showed determination and overall was doing very well.

So, we decided to take her skills to the next level and enrolled her into TAGS - a gymnastics school nearby. She has almost completed a full session there and absolutely loves it. If money grew on trees, she would have her wish of being in a gymnastics class every single day of the week.

It's pretty hard to get any really good pictures of her because the parents sit in a large lobby behind a glass window to view the whole gym. We basically have to fight for front row window space. HA!

Here are a few very short video clips of Alexa doing a front hand spring and her favorite - round off's.

We are so proud of Alexa and how well she is doing. But, most of all she is having fun and that's what really counts.

We Heart Powderhorn Park!

We have been loving and participating in Minneapolis Park and Recreation programs for years now.

Ever since my husband got involved working with them we have actively participated in several different activities at multiple recreation centers. Now that the hubs is the Director at Powderhorn Park - it's (needless to say) become our favorite and the last few weeks we have been there often enjoying all the amazing programs they offer.

Last week we celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an incredible event at Powderhorn. There were several activities and crafts set up for the kids, African drum lessons, several performances and some yummy food.

Last night Powderhorn Park held a Fire on Ice event - people could come ice skate, roast smores at the bonfire, drink hot cocoa and get some tips and skating advice from professional figure skater, Kelly McInnis - who just so happens to be my brothers girlfriend. :)

Lilli has never had a pair of ice skates on and Alexa has only once back when she was about 3 - so, I wasn't really sure how this was going to go - but, it couldn't have gone any better. The girls did AMAZING!

It was the most gorgeous night. The weather was perfect - there was an incredible crowd that were all having so much fun - there was a perfect view of the gorgeous Minneapolis skyline and a pretty sweet island to skate around on the lake.

Kelly was by far the hit of the night - she did some fabulous spins and tricks for the crowd, who all cheered and asked for more. It was a pretty big deal to many of the people who came to see her....because let's be honest - she is a big deal. Just YouTube her if you don't believe me.

I was so impressed with how determined she was to learn how to skate. She did so well considering it was basically her first time. Yes, there were lots of falls and probably going to be some bruises on her butt and legs, but she just kept getting back up and trying again!

Afterwards, we treated ourselves to some Dairy Queen ice-cream - and then shared a plate of fries and chicken strips (yes, in that order!).

Today the girls had a Birthday party for their friend Aspen (who turned 5)!

They had a great time - although who would't, it was a Justin Beiber party - LOL

We tried to race back up to Powderhorn Park after the party to see the Art Sled Rally, but unfortunately because of the lack of snow we had this year and the back and forth meetings about should we cancel the event - should we not, there weren't as many people who participated and we ended up missing it.

The hubs was there - because he had to work, of course - so, he got us some cool videos of all the amazing sleds. I am already so anxious to see it next year - hopefully we'll have more snow to ensure more participation.

Since we were already on our way there when the hubs called to tell us it was over - we decided to go ice skating again. The girls are obsessed with skating - who would have thought?

Even tho its been a considerably mild winter season - I have to say that I have stood by the promise I made myself at the beginning of winter - to embrace the season and the snow.

Now that my girls are older and enjoy activities like sledding and now their new love of skating - I have a feeling that I'm going to continue with my new positive outlook on winter.

OMGoodness - are they ever sweet.

One of my favorite things to for Valentines Day is help my girls pick out their cards and treats for the classmates. We sit around the table, spread out all their cards, stickers and candy and go to town on packaging up something special for all their friends.

We finally have snow!

We have had the most mild winter here in Minnesota. It's been unbelievably warm considering the time of year and we have had very minimal amounts of snow.

This past Friday we got a significant enough amount for the kids to be able to finally use their new sleds and snow shovels that Santa brought them for Christmas.

Sunday, while I was cooped up inside back and forth between the couch and my bed, not feeling well at all, the hubs took the girls outside for the afternoon.

As you can see, you can still see the grass, which means we really didn't get that much snow - especially for Minnesota. But, the kids will take what they can get and looks to me like it didn't slow down their sledding fun.

Her awesome big sister caved and pulled her up.

One of my worst fears happened...

Yesterday, my husband ran to the store to grab some milk for the kids' breakfast cereal and while he was gone he gave me strict instructions to go through the pictures on my iPhone and delete the ones that Alexa had taken. {She holds the camera button down and takes millions of pictures at a time...it's super annoying.} While I was sitting on the couch sifting through and deleting photos, Alexa and Lillian were doing their tumbling and dancing routines in the middle of the living room floor. This is a totally common thing, as they are constantly doing gymnastics...summersaults, cartwheels, round-off's, you name it.

So they were tumbling and I was deleting - and they were laughing and I wasn't paying much attention....

Then all of a sudden their laughter turned into panic. Alexa's voice went completely hysterical enough to make me look and jump up at the same time - to which I find Lillian as bright blue as can be. Her face is completely white, with blue circles around her eyes and bright purple lips. Her hands were shaking and they were the brightest shade of blue, as well. She was sitting up on her knees, in her gymnastics leotard..{that's all my girls wear around the house}.

Like I said, I wasn't paying too much attention and they were laughing loudly and talking and whatnot, so I can't remember hearing a cry from Lilli but, she could have let out a wail or 2.

Ever since Lilli was born she stops breathing when she cries and turns blue in the face, so seeing her like this isn't abnormal either. However, this time it went to her hands - and I knew that the day I had feared was here. I ran to grab her and sure enough, she passed out limp in my arms.

I would say she would out for maybe 5-10 seconds at the very most, but of course it seems so much longer at the time.

Alexa was crazy hysterical. She ran to her room and was screaming that she was the worst sister for allowing this to happen.

As I was holding my limp baby, patting her chest and blowing softly in her face - I'm trying to calm Alexa down enough to find out what happened.

All she could say was that she was a horrible big sister and that she should never help coach Lilli in gymnastics.

As Lilli was coming to - Alexa finally was able to tell me that Lilli was in a bridge position on the floor and when she came down, she landed wrong and hurt her back.

I also had Lilli's legs in the air to help with the blood flow and made sure she could wiggle her toes and fingers. She seemed a little bit shook up - so, I kept her laying on the floor for awhile longer. Alexa got her a pillow and sat and held her hand and cried at her side.

Somehow, some way - I was able to remain calm with both my girls in this situation, but I spent the rest of the day freaking out about it. I can't seem to get the vision of Lilli falling into my arms and looking so blue.

She definitely started crying from the pain of landing wrong on her back, but her losing consciousness came from her holding her breath when she cries.

It was the scary thing for this Mama to see and I hope it never happens again.

Lillian is just fine now - and Alexa has been reassured that she is by far the BEST big sister in the whole world for caring so much about her little sister.

As for me? I think I worried myself sick yesterday - I have a sore throat, stuffy nose and quite possible an earache. I've either been laying in bed or on the couch all day.

On a brighter note - my amazing husband surprised me with an iPad 2 on Friday - but, after playing around with it we decided it wasn't the best decision since I wasn't able to properly blog from it. So, we exchanged it for the MacBook Air. So far, I'm loving it.

Prairie Blessings Review & {Hooded Towel & Bib} Giveaway!

In her shop, you will find an amazing collection of hooded bath towels for your babies and toddlers, as well as the sweetest variety of baby bibs.

I, for one, absolutley love hooded bath towels for my kids. It keeps them snuggly warm when jumping out of the tub and it aids in keeping their hair from dripping all over the place.

I was so excited that Carla was willing to design 2 hooded towels for me, one for Alexa and the other for Lillian.

I have to admit that I get a little bit leary about ordering towels like this in a kid size version because for some reason my experience with this has lead to cheap, poor quality towels that are thin and don't do the job that I expect.

I was jumping up and down thrilled to see that Carla uses large, plush bath towels that are thick and soft. She creates a functional towel that is top quality and professional. She takes a regular sized bath towel and designs the hood with kid friendly fabric and embelishments that are appropriate for it's use. Nothing too over the top glitsy, but just enough to make it fun and exciting for the child to use.

If you look closely to the picture you can see that Alexa's towel features are rosette in matching fabric around the hood.
Carla is super accomidating to your childs likes and the theme you desire. Alexa likes puppies and Lillian is a fan of owls (which is also a decor theme in her bedroom), so she incorporated that into their special towels.

Another fantastic feature is that she adds a matching fabric hook/loop to the back of the towel for easy hanging.
My girls have special hooks for their bath towels in their room and it's very conventient to not have to worry about hanging a wet hooded towel on the wooden peg.

Overall, I am so pleased with the towels and my girls give them 2 thumbs up! :)

Another one of Carla's specialty items that she features in her shop, Prairie Blessings, is her calendar bibs.

She was so sweet to custom make one for a friend of mine's son, Jackson.

When I first pulled the bib out of the package, I thought to myself..."Awww, how tiny"
I forget how little babies are....{considering my 'baby' is 4...it's been awhile for me}

I cannot think of a more special gift to give for an expectant Mama.
These calendar bibs feature the calendar month of your baby's birth and a emblem on the day they were born. As you can see there is a heart around the 31st to indicate Jackson's July 31st birthday.

What a unique treasure for your baby's shadowbox or special keepsake.

The front features an amazing variety of different fabric choices for both boy and girl and the back is terry cloth material, so in fact, the bib is still fully functional to wipe up those messy dribbles.
The edges of the fabric are meant to be frayed to give it a shabby look - LOOOVE it!

A huge favorite for me is that Carla offers a variety of incredible vintage fabrics.
I cannot get over their cuteness. This is definitley not a bib that you would find in Target!

I found this little coat to be so adorable in the pictures in their shop, but I have to tell you, it's over a hundred times better in person. I was incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship, the design and the overall quality.

The outside layer is a beautiful tweed and the inside is lined with a soft maroon corduroy.

The style is very much 'in' right now - the modern collar, the large buttons and the pleats in the front.

Lillian absolutley loves it. It's a lovely coat for her to wear for dress to church and special occasions.

The quality is better than I imagined.

Alycia and Nikki also sent my girls a fun little hat from their shop. I call it the Princess Leia hat!

Luckily, it fits both my girls so they can take turns wearing it.

I adore the color combination - the colors match practically everything they want to wear it with.

The earflaps provide the extra warmth around their ears and face.

Alexa: Rock Star!

Alexa came home from school today with a special surprise in her backpack and a huge smile on her face.

You're looking at the current STAR STUDENT OF THE MONTH!

If you've read my blog over the years, you know that going to the dentist is a very tramatic time for Alexa.

She gets the WORST anxiety and literally shakes and lays stiff as a board during her whole exam. The poor kid had major panic attacks when talk of x-raying her teeth came up. In fact, it wasn't until 6 months ago that she actually went through with it for the first time.

Sooo..you can imagine the fear she had when we learned that her 2 bottom 6 year molars had cavities due to the way they grew in and formed together. Poor kid!! I felt the anxiety with her and the months leading up to her getting her fillings were so terrifying for her.

However, once she started breathing in some laughing gas she was as calm as could be.

She was able to get her 2 fillings and 4 teeth capped with sealance to prevent future cavities without a single shiver or shake of fear. I was over and beyond proud of her....and so thankful she handled it all so well...even the shots of novicaine.

Feelin good!

On another high note - Alexa was also tested at her new gymnastics center to see where she would be placed in class and she exceeded our expectations - testing into a higher class level than she was in her previous gym. Hooray!! She starts her first class session as an Intermediate I tomorrow night.

This darling set came just in time for me to give to Alexa for Christmas and I could not have paired a better outfit with her new pink boots. :) My little drama queen LOVES this sassy skirt, ruffle legging, top and headband set from Sweetie Bird Designs.

I was so excited to take a closer look at it when she tried it on. The ruffle leggings are so fun and comfortable. Alexa says they are light and loves the feeling of all the fun ruffles.

The skirt is so adorable and well made. My favorite thing about it (besides the awesome fabrics) is the waistband which is a thick elastic. It's soft and no pinching around the waist.

The top is a white long tee with a funky high heeled shoe applique which is professionally applied.

The black ribbin accent is attached very securely to where I'm not at all worried about it coming off in the wash.

To complete the outfit is a made to match headband with soft elastic in the back for comfort. There are ribbon accents along with a little rosette in the middle - all sewn on securely.

Overall, I'm very impressed with Jodi's work at Sweetie Bird Designs.

I love that all items are sold seperately and together in complete matching sets.

A Christmas Post

Hey Guys!! I hope you all had a very blessed holiday season!! I have a lot to tell you about our Christmas...so hang with me through this long post of highlights from the past week in somewhat random order...

- All the amazing food. The traditional meal in my husbands family for Christmas is SEAFOOD!! His Mom always has a huge heaping platter of king crab legs and shrimp. It's the meal I had been working sooo hard for over the last month. During all my workouts I would push myself a little bit harder so that I could indulge myself a little bit more during Christmas Eve dinner. And I totally did. Basically I was "laying" on my chair by the end of the meal. Then I went out to the living room and saw all the guys stretched out on the couches with their bellies hanging out - stuffed to the brim...and then I didn't feel so bad for eating like a pig, because we all did...even Alexa and Lil. Since they don't eat Seafood, their Grandpa made them ribs and fajitas. OMGoodness - YUM!!

Each year we have a contest to see who can get the biggest, longest and thickest piece of crab meat.

On Lilli's second Christmas, when she was old enough to sit in a highchair - her little tiny arm reached towards the middle of the table and grabbed herself a crab leg. She had no interest in eating it or even putting it near her mouth - but, she did have a great time poking her sister with it - and as you can see the tradition continues..haha

- I baked!! The week prior to Christmas I baked a little something every night. I made peppermint bark, sugar cookies (I wanted to make the cut out kind - but, I don't have a rolling pin (weird - I know!) - when I made them a few weeks prior I had used a little miniature rolling pin from the girls' playdough set and it was pretty difficult - so I just made circles and we decorated them with frosting and sprinkles), pizza bars, chocolate pretzels, marshmellow snowmen, oreo cookie truffles, cornflake wreaths and peanut butter/chocolate oatmal no-bake cookies with M&M's. Some were pretty Christmasy, some were not - but, they were all kid-friendly to make, which was a must when I have 2 little helpers at home.

- Alexa and Lillian were overjoyed to be able to spend time with their Grandpa, Grandma, Auntie Andrea and Uncle Benny and Amanda. Lilli didn't have school on Friday (Alexa did) so she was home all day with her Papa and I think she used up all her energy on being excited and fought real hard to stay awake on the hour and a half car ride there - but, once we got to Grandpa and Grandma's - she was pretty tuckered out. Neither of the girls fought going to bed all weekend. They enjoyed all the attention they got and loved every minute of playing with Mongo (Grandma's puppy).

- Christmas Eve mass was at 4pm on Saturday. It was also the Children's mass, so it was kind of exciting as I knew the girls would get a kick out of seeing all the children dressed up and put on their little program for everyone. We knew we had to leave early to get a seat with a good enough view, but apparently arriving 45 minutes early was not enough...we barely made it inside the door. The gathering space in the front of the church was completely full of chairs and there were many standing. We all stood together in a small corner for the entire mass/program. The hubs and Uncle Benny put the girls on their shoulders so they could at least see a little bit. The priest invited all the children to the alter for a fun little kid-friendly reading and then passed out Christmas gifts to them all and instructed them all to WAIT until they got home to open them. Alexa had all the corners of hers peeled open - not a paitent bone in her body. haha

- Christmas Eve morning Adam and I let Alexa and Lillian open one present, which were brand new dress coats (so they could wear them to church). I was upset at the time, but now looking back I guess I just have to laugh at the disappointment in Alexa's eyes. She was so excited to open a gift (finally!) and then it had to be a dress coat and not the latest and greatest toy she had been hoping for. I remember when I was a kid my Mom would always let my brothers and I open one gift before going to my grandparents on Christmas Eve...and it was ALWAYS an outfit for us to wear there. We always 'knew' that it was going to be an outfit, but there was always a little glimpse of hope that it was a cool toy or doll that we could show off to our cousins.

Alexa had a little talking to - and the Grandma smoothed things over by allowing each of them to open another gift which were both games. Alexa got a Princess Jewel game (kinda like the fishing game where the fish spin in a circle and open their mouths and you have to try to catch them.) where she had to capture all the jewels. Lillian got a big Princess box filled with all sorts of games...Go Fish, Old Maid, Checkers..and so on. They were a nice distraction for them during the day. :)

- Along with their dress coats we gave them some little gloves to match. It's always a challange for me to get their little fingers into the appropriate finger slots on the gloves, so I can imagine Lillian's struggle when she attempted to try to put them on by herself in the car on the way to church (she had taken them off to put her lip gloss on *rolling eyes* such a DIVA!). All of a sudden she started having a major meltdown in the back seat. Then, screaming at the top of her lungs she yells, "MOOOMMMY...I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FINGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". I turn around to find that she had 2 fingers in one of the finger slots and one slot was empty. The look of terror in her eyes that she had a missing finger was.....well...it was hilarious! All of us burst out laughing, which didn't help the situation. Poor Lilli!! I situated all her fingers and all was well.

- Adam's brother Benny and his wife Amanda were going to be traveling to Iowa to visit her family on Christmas Day, so we exchanged gifts with them after dinner Christmas Eve. We always start with the youngest and go to the oldest, opening one gift at a time. This is tradition in my family, too - I think that's cool that we have the same 'gift opening' traditions. {Does your family have a unique way of opening gifts - I'd love to hear if you do!!} Anyways, it got to my turn to open my gift from Benny and Amanda and I pull a few things from a gift bag. The first was some little booties that make your feet real soft - and then the next item I looked at was a white Precious Moments Bible. In my head I was like...hmm..this is an interesting gift. But, I didn't want to be rude - so I was like Awww, look at this. Lillian asked me..Mommy, what is it? As I said out loud to everyone what it was, Amanda is glaring at Benny and they are mumbling back and forth and it was awkward for about 2 seconds and then Amanda starts laughing and Benny looks all confused like..How did that get in there? Well, apparently they were wrapping presents together in their living room and Benny was going a little faster than Amanda so he offered to wrap my gift which Amanda instructed was laying on the coffee table. Benny picked up the stack, put it in a bag, threw some tissue over it and called it a day. Little did he know, he wrapped up his wife's Bible she received from her First Holy Communion along with my lotions and booties. We had a good laugh....and I think it's pretty safe to say this will be talked about at every Christmas from here on out. Benny will never live this one down.

- Alexa and Lillian received so many nice things. Some may call them spoiled, but really they are just 'loved' by so many people!! Alexa got a huuuge package of make-up (that I'm actually kinda jealous of) for dress up, a back pack she can color on and design herself, some headbands, a dress, books, a scrapbook set...ect. Lillian got a Barbie that was the TOP thing on her wish list, some books, clothes, a little bowling set and more.

Christmas lunch - leftovers!!

- It has been the strangest Christmas here in Minnesota with NO SNOW!! Everyone I talked to mentioned how it doesn't really 'feel' like Christmas without the snow. I'm usually the one wishing the snow would go away, but I have to admit - a brown Christmas is just not the same as a beautiful white one. However, it had a few perks. We didn't have to worry about bad roads when traveling this year. Typically all our Christmases are 'play it by ear' type ones where we always have to wait til the last minute to confirm that we're either coming or not and pray to the heavens and cross all our appendages that a huge winter blizzard doesn't hit as we get ready to go. This year all the roads were dry and traffic wasn't too bad. Also, we were able to enjoy a nice long walk Sunday afternoon outside - without boots on. Hooray!

- Due to Christmas Day falling on a weekend, we had Monday off from school and work. I cannot tell you how excited I was for this. The main reason being that we'd have a whole day to spend together as a family and have our own little Christmas at home. We travel every year to be with either my family or Adam's - and even tho I treasure our time with all of them - it makes me a little bit sad that we don't have our own family traditions. So, before we left for the weekend - the girls left a note under the tree telling Santa that they were at Grandma's house and asked if he could come to our house on Sunday night. Christmas morning there was a note under Grandma's tree from Santa saying that he'd received their note back at home and that he'd be back that night. We got home that evening and the girls found yet another note from Santa under our tree saying they had both made the "Nice List" this year and that he'd be back. So, they left him milk and cookies and went to bed. Lillian was the first to wake up and was sure that she had heard Santa and the reindeer in the middle of the night. However, she was too scared to go check herself if he had left any presents, so I peeked out to the living room for her and sure enough - Santa kept his word and came back to bring them presents.

Once Alexa woke up they both tip toed out to the living room and were pleasantly surprised at what they say. Alexa was so relieved that she didn't get any coal this year (she was SURE that she would).

Instead, they found new shovels and sleds under the tree from Santa along with their gifts from Mommy and Daddy. Santa ate their cookies and drank the glass of milk they left for him, too!

Their excitement was priceless!!

Adam - along with all his buddies - had a saying when they were in high school {mainly during sports} "NGU" which stands for Never Give Up!! They still to this day all use that phrase and apply it to their daily lives and even use it with their children. Adam is going to hang it in his office as a reminder to keep on working hard.

Adam and the girls gave me some make up, hand weights, a new hat and gloves and jacket and the most important of all - the whole entire day together as a family, which is more than I could ever ask for.

Oh, what a FUN weekend we had....and I'm so happy to be filled with the spirit of Christmas...and I have a feeling it's going to last.

Things started off a little rocky - Thursday, the hubs and I got in a little tiff {totally my fault} because I was stressing out about the weekend ahead. We procrastinated on our Christmas shopping {like we do every year}, we weren't 100% sure what we wanted to get the kids yet and I hadn't done any real baking or planning for our Christmas with his family. Time seemed to be slipping and I wasn't progressing with ANYTHING. Plus, I knew that because we needed to cram most all of our shopping/baking/wrapping into one weekend it was going to get pretty crazy and spendy and well...that just gets stressful. So, I had my little meltdown - the hubs smoothed things over - and he delivered an amazing weekend.

{Except for Friday when Alexa woke up with a major stomach bug and had to stay home from school. Poor baby! It basically lasted an hour, but that hour was pure torture in the worst possible way for her. I, however, enjoyed being able to stay home and snuggle with her all day - while watching Cake Boss...that is, after she was done being sick!}

We had lots to do Saturday - our day was completely booked. And even tho it didn't go according to my strict planned out schedule - it was amazing. We ran our errands in the morning and laughed so hard as Lillian walked like the Grinch everywhere we went - hands curled in front of her chest and tip-toeing very fast. She even know how to laugh like him. Oh - the memories we made!! We took the girls out to Wendy's for lunch. It's always a special treat for them when they can sit at a 'high' table with tall chairs. So, they were happy to find 2 high tables right next to each other - one for Lilli and Alexa and one for Mommy and Daddy. They sat and visited with each other, ate their food and constructed their toy trains from their kids meal while Adam and I sat and had grown up talk. It was romantic in a very "we're eating at a fast food restaraunt - with our kids" kinda way.

Our last stop was Target to do some shopping and to pick up ~~a few~~ a lot of baking supplies. My husband deserves the biggest pat on the back for not rolling his eyes {at least in my direction} and not getting impatient {only a little bit} because it was clear that EVERYONE was doing last minute shopping and stocking up on baking goods, just like we were. It was freaking NUTS!! But, it was a pleasant surprise to run into some sweet friends/neighbors while we were scurrying through the aisles. Yay!

My schedule called for Christmas baking all afternoon on Saturday but, that didn't happen. Instead, when we got home from our shopping trip, we grabbed our baby girls and snuggled up on the couch to watch the Good Luck Charlie Christmas movie where Amy tells the family that she is pregnant with their 5th child. Oooh - I just love that show. haha {Random but true fact - Adam and I have been known to watch this show while the kids are in bed.}

After the movie we grabbed a quick dinner and then it was off to The Heart of the Beast Theatre in Minneapolis for the play - Winter's Dream. I had no idea what to expect of this play - but, it was over and beyond my wildest expectations. The Heart of the Beast is a "puppet" theatre - but, not just your typical hand puppets - these things are massive. I wish I would have been able to take pictures inside during the play - but, I couldn't, or at least I just didn't. It was a play about animals and how they survive the cold MN winter. The puppets/costumes were beautiful and literally quite massive - some of them were. Hot cider and cookies were served at intermission - and Alexa and Lillian were able to go up on the stage and touch the 'fake' snow. Lillian was very curious about that and was disappointed when she realized it really was just 'fake' - and soft. Both girls fell asleep almost instantly in the car on the way home. Adam and I carried them into the house and laid them in their beds without a single peep out of them.

After church on Sunday we ran a few more errands and did a little more shopping and then it was home to BAKE! The girls started off helping me - then all of a sudden Lillian disappeared into her bedroom to read books and then before I knew it Alexa was gone, too. I hurried through a few treats and then called them back in for some help before I cleaned up. I'm hoping that all our goodies last until the weekend!!

Then another quick dinner and we were back off to Minneapolis for the final night of the Holidazzle parade. We were excited to meet up with the lovely Emily from Family and Life in Las Vegas and her adorable little Squishy man, but a stroke of bad luck on their part made it impossible. :( Next year - for sure!! We got there in the nick of time and ended up getting an open spot on the street literally inches away from the floats that were coming by.

The floats were amazing - Alladin, Pinocchio, Hansel and Grettel, Wizard of Oz and so many more. And then the last and final float was Santa and the reindeer. Hooray!! It was so much fun and a perfect way to end the weekend. Alexa and Lillian loved walking through downtown Minneapolis among all the super tall buildings. Lillian broke out her Grinch walk again and we all laughed so hard at her. What a little goofball.

Green Hawaiian Dress

Joanne has this sweet peasant dress listed as "Hawaiian", but I don't think I've seen anything that reminds us more of my husband's abuela {grandma}. Lillian calls it her Mexican dress!!

Besides the amazing floral print fabric - we LOVE the orange ball fringe around the bottom of the dress and the arms.
That simple touch makes this dress so special and unique - definitley one of a kind.

The peasant style dress is a favorite of my girls because they are so comfortable. They are lightweight and perfect to wear alone on a warm summer day or to pair with a long sleeved t-shirt and a pair of jeans or leggings.

My Twinn Doll Review {Part 1}

I'm going to let you all in on a little secret.....Shhhh...

Lillian is going to be getting HER for Christmas....

What you see here is a My Twinn doll - made to look just like my little Lilli. My Twinn's are super special because you literally design them yourself to look like your child.

My kids are half Mexican, so you can about imagine how difficult it is to find a doll in your average toy store that is going to resemble their skin tones and hair colors. My Twinn is making it possible for Lillian to have a doll that she can connect with and cherish forever.

I was able to go through a thourough process of selecting every little detail of this doll, skin color, hair color, hair length, style of hair, shape of face, eye color - and there were even options to add freckles or birth marks. I sent in 3 photos of Lillian so that the My Twinn designers knew exactly how to mold her face. There were also several different options for clothing that I could choose to have the doll sent it. I chose the pj set.

I think that the doll definitley resembles Lillian - but, not so much that they look identical in a creepy kind of way. I will be doing a follow up review after Christmas so that you can see them together, side by side.

My Twinn dolls are 23" and are made to move and bend in many ways so that the doll can be played with, too. She can sit, wave and even do the splits.

My Twinn dolls are a bit spendier than just any doll - but, think of it as a keepsake for your child - something they can play with while they're and hold onto through their years. Holiday Cheer, Please!!

I am having such a hard time 'staying' in the holiday spirit this year. I get these little bursts of excitment and then soon it disappears. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a total Scrooge, it's just that - I don't know, maybe it's the weather. It's been unusually 'warm' here in Minnesota the last few days. We got a snowfall that was significant enough to last for a few days but it's completely melted already. I'm totally not complaining about that - I just think it goes along with the fact that without snow, it doesn't feel like Christmas.

The girls and I are constantly listening to Christmas music which puts me in a really happy mood. I love hearing them sing along - especially when they don't really suspect that I'm listening. We've made a couple batches of sugar cut-out cookies and decorated them with some fun holiday sprinkles. I even let the hubs have another try at taking us around the town to look at the Christmas lights. He did much better the 2nd go-round. I think he kinda felt bad that the first attempt was pretty disappointing to me. We watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Friday night. I popped some popcorn, we snuggled under blankets with our jammies on {and then literally we ALL went to bed right after the movie...at 8:20pm - on a Friday night}.

Adam and I took the girls to an old fashioned Christmas village in town. At the fairgrounds they have a little town set up with buildings from the early 1900's. Each year a few weekends before Christmas they decorate all the buildings {house, church, school, fire station, jail, general store, library, barber shop, post office..ect.} with lights and Christmas trees. They have people dressed in character posing as teachers, barber..ect. We are able to walk thru each building and there are people there to tell us specific information about what it was like to live back in that time. We've gone for a few years now, but each year I feel like I learn something new and I'm still surprised at how astounded I get experiencing for a bit what it was like to live back then. Boy, do we take things for granted.

They have some fun things for the kids, too - they can write a letter to Santa in the post office and mail it right there {then eventually we get one back from him in our mail box at home}, in the school house the kids can write on black board slates while sitting in the old fashion desks. This year the kids were able to color a little mitten ornament, too. Christmas carols are sung in the church, the general store offers goodies such as soup, cookies, hot cocoa and cider. They also have trolley rides throughout the village pulled by the most beautiful horses.

We really had a great time. Alexa and Lillian are at ages now where it's easier to do things like this. They understand a little bit more and are way more self sufficient. I saw a poor Mom pushing a stroller through the little bit of slush and snow we had and even tho I felt bad for her - I was thankful I was not in her shoes.

We have another fun Christmasy weekend coming up - going to a Christmas play, doing some shopping and visiting Santa at the mall. I'd love to get some more baking done, too. The girls are counting down the days til Santa comes - they are so excited. I'm hoping the best 'feelings' of Christmas can linger on for another week or so.

Where have I been??

ON PINTEREST!!!

You guys - it's an obsession!!

I even downloaded the Pinterest app on my iphone.

My husband did find his little note from me {scroll down a few posts} and to my surprise he was pretty interested. I explained things a little bit more in person and then showed him just a fraction what it was all about online. This is definitley something I have to ease him in to, tho, especially since I plan on quitting my job to accomplish all the awesome DIY projects and fun crafts that I've found. (<--------- that will never happen but, I totally wish).

I've decided to start small and work my way up to bigger things - like furniture.

So, here is what I've been working on the last few days.

Here's what you do - plain and simple!

1.) Raid your husbands closet for old t-shirts. If he's anything like mine - you won't have a problem finding a ton of them - and in all different colors.

2.) Cut them into 3 strips.

3.) Start braiding about 3/4 of the way down and stop 3/4 of the way from the bottom.

4.) Tie the ends and voila - a headband!

It's pretty self explanitory - but, if you really want a full tutorial with step by step pictures - just let me know.

These types of headbands are so popular these days. Girls, teens and women of all ages are wearing them for fashion or in my case - to hold my hair back while I work out. They are stretchy and easily adjustable to fit any size head.

I even made a couple really small ones for the girls to wear as bracelets.

Dear Husband,

You don't know this yet, but I've recently discovered Pinterest. I know what you're thinking - What is Pinterest? Well, basically it's another one of those social websites that you ~~love so much~~ make fun of - where people share ideas for home decor, DIY projects, recipes, kiddie crafts and so much more. You create these 'boards' where you 'pin' all these fun ideas you have. Now, don't be mad, but I've sort of become obsessed with it and have all these great new plans for our home. Yes, many of them include DIY projects. If you want I can show you my boards with all my fun pins. I thought that maybe it would be some great bonding times for us - you know, to work on these projects together. For the past few days I've been dreaming of us building our home with simple items we find at garage sales, thrift shops and antique stores. Sounds fun, right?

I know you're rolling your eyes right about now - but, please hear me out. We always talk about exploring our creative sides and supporting each other in our hobbies and being open to new ideas. Pinterest has taught me to make something out of nothing. We're all about that, right Babe - saving a buck or two.

So, what I'm really trying to say here is when I ask you to go pick up an entertainment center that I found on craigslist - I'm really not going to try to shove your 50" TV inside there - I'm most likely not going to use it for an entertainment center at all. I have bigger and better plans for it. Or, if I want you to cut the legs off a dresser or make a nightstand out of drawers - please don't look at me like I'm crazy. There is a method to the madness - and I learned it all from Pinterest. I think it would be better for both of us if you just go with it - and embrace all my new projects and plans. It's most likely a phase that may or may not wear off - but, for the time being I'm in it - full force.
