This Weekend....{Art Sled Rally}

This Weekend....

Lilli had Saturday morning gymnastics.  She is working on her pull-over's and back hip-circles on the bar.  It's so cute to watch because she just looks so tiny up there on that bar.

After gymnastics, I took the girls to the library - this seems to be the best time of the week for us to go, as our week nights seem to get so jam-packed and busy.  If we dedicate a little time after gymnastics on Saturday, the girls are able to graze the book shelves a little longer and with more enjoyment than if we're rushed during the week.

This Weekend....

We had to bail on our plans to attend the Fire on Ice event at Powderhorn Park Friday night because it was just too cold.  The girls and I were looking forward to some ice-skating and warm smores by the bonfire - - AND of course meeting up with some of my awesome blogger buddies.  But, I think we could all agree we were much happier and comfortable snuggled up at home instead of on the frozen lake.

We did venture out Saturday afternoon to attend the 2013 Art Sled Rally, though.  My husband had left early that morning to get things ready and set up, but by the time we arrived at the park - the hay bales that they use to line the hill had not arrived and he mentioned that they may have to cancel.   We didn't have much snow then (we got more Sunday) so the hill was pure ICE.  It was pretty dangerous anyways, but not having the hay bale barricades to protect the sledders and by-standers was even worse.   But, instead of canceling, they widened the runway for the sledders quite a bit, and put up caution tape to keep the people there to watch at a safe distance away.

The girls and I (and many others) had a terrible time trying to climb the ice-filled hill to get to a spot where we could see.  But, seeing is we weren't the only ones slipping and sliding and causing others to fall along the way - we all made the most of it and laughed at the silliness.  After we finally made it to a snowy patch that kept us from falling - we stayed put and I told the girls not to move or we'd be headed back down the hill on our tushies.

The sleds were AMAZING this year and super creative.  What a FUN event.  If you live in the area - this is a must to add to your list of winter activities.  Enjoy a few pictures below...via.  My husband is the one in the black coat and white hat helping the sleds get going at the top of the hill...and a few at the bottom of the hill, too, catching the sleds before they crashed into trees or any spectators.  You can see that he took a few spills on the ice, too.  Yyyaaaoouuucchh!!

Alexa is already coming up with ideas on what she is going to put together for a sled next year.  She is determined to take part in such a great event that promotes art, creativity and community.  We love it and can't wait for next year.

This Weekend....

The girls had Sunday school on Sunday morning, followed by mass.  Alexa was supposed to have a play date with her Sunday school classmate, Jillian (her teacher's daughter), but they ended up coming down with the flu, so we had to postpone.  Alexa was bummed, but a phone call later in the day from her friend Katie made up for it - she got to go play with her for a few hours.

We also got ourselves caught up on American Idol, picked up some groceries and just relaxed the rest of the day.

I'm linking up with Syn and Sar for This Weekend I....

What a fun weekend! Bummer it was too chilly on Friday, but probably good you ladies stayed in!

I'm so happy you take your kids to the library! I honestly didn't think kids went to libraries anymore.

I'm so far behind in blog reading, just catching up now! The Art Sled Rally looks like fun - cold, but still fun...I've learnt after 12 years of living in MN that you have to get out in it, in order to enjoy it (& prevent cabin fever)! My son would have loved to watch that event, and people slipping and sliding on ice (himself included!). I'll have to remember that for next year too.
